As the Gameweek 10 deadline is now within sight, we shine a spotlight on Newcastle midfielder Anthony Gordon (£5.6m), who will be looking to maintain his excellent form against Wolves come this Saturday.
It had initially been a slow start for Anthony Gordon when it came to his Newcastle career since joining the Magpies from Everton in the January transfer window last season. Questions were raised over whether Gordon was going to be a success on Tyneside, especially when taking into account that Newcastle were competing (and eventually qualified) for Champions League football.
However, following a full pre-season with Newcastle, Gordon has taken this season by storm, playing a key part for Eddie Howe’s side on the wing. His direct play and fearlessness makes him a huge attacking threat, not to mention his ability to score from distance. After assisting a goal in Gameweek 1, Gordon hasn’t looked back since then.
His first Premier League goal came in Gameweek 3 came against Liverpool, albeit in a losing effort as the Reds came back to win by two goals to one. From an FPL perspective though, it was a profitable weekend as Gordon claimed 10 fantasy points, his first double-figure haul of the campaign. Since then, he has gained one higher score than that. Gameweek 6 saw Gordon accrue both a goal, an assist and 12 FPL points as Newcastle destroyed Sheffield Utd 0-8 at Bramall Lane.
Over the course of the season so far, Gordon’s current attacking returns in the Premier League stand at three goals and four assists, his most recent goal coming in Gameweek 9 against Crystal Palace. The last time the Englishman failed to gain an offensive return was all the way back in Gameweek 4, which underlines his consistency and why he represents such good value right now as an FPL asset. With a cheap price-tag, fantasy managers are wasting little time snapping Gordon up ahead of Gameweek 10.
