As the Gameweek 12 deadline is starting to come into view, we cast a spotlight on Man Utd midfielder Bruno Fernandes (£8.3m), who will be looking to build upon his winning goal for the Red Devils last Saturday against Luton this coming weekend.
Bruno Fernandes has been somewhat of an enigma from an FPL point of view over the course of his Man Utd career so far. No one will forget in a hurry his impact for that first season and a half under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, when he racked up 26 goals and 22 assists in total. The Portuguese international signed from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 and immediately accumulated 117 fantasy points across the rest of that season. He followed that up with a mammoth 244 FPL points in the 2020-21 campaign.
However, Fernandes regressed in 2021-22, recording just ten goals, seven assists and 151 FPL points. While he increased his overall fantasy score to 176 points the following season, he scored two less goals, although his assist tally of nine was his second highest annual total since joining Man Utd.
As it stands, it’s been a mixed 2023-24 campaign for Fernandes so far, accruing just three goals and two assists in 11 gameweeks as it stands. However, his most recent Premier League appearance saw him score a winner for Man Utd away at Fulham, taking his overall FPL total to 52 points, passing the half-century mark for the first time. He was also on the scoresheet midweek from the penalty spot in the Red Devils’ Champions League clash away at Copenhagen.
Gameweek 12 sees Erik ten Hag’s side host Luton at Old Trafford, the Hatters on the back of a hugely credible 1-1 draw against Liverpool. But Rob Edwards’ men are yet to keep a clean sheet in the top flight after 11 games and with this in mind, Fernandes represents an enticing option for FPL managers.
