With the Gameweek 5 deadline coming up fast, we shine a spotlight on Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez (£7.4m), who has hit a purple patch of form for Liverpool and might wind up an extremely valuable FPL asset post international break.
Darwin Nunez began the new season on the bench, despite having been Liverpool’s record signing last year. With a plethora of options available to Jurgen Klopp in attack, Nunez could count himself as unlucky to miss out on the XI, although he wasn’t going to accept the decision quietly.
Gameweek 3 proved to be Nunez’s breakthrough week of the campaign. With Liverpool 1-0 down away at Newcastle and having been reduced to ten-men, the expectation was that they would end up falling to their first league defeat in 2023-24. However, perhaps even Klopp wasn’t expecting what was to come when he brought Nunez off the bench with 13 minutes of normal time left to play.
The Uruguayan single-handedly took the game and flipped it on its head, first equalising for the Reds, before stunning Newcastle with a winning goal. That brace saw him rack up 11 FPL points, despite having spent such little time on the pitch. Unsurprisingly, such a cameo saw him rewarded by Klopp with a Gameweek 4 start at home to Aston Villa. Again, Nunez took the opportunity by recording two assists and 8 fantasy points before being taken off after 64 minutes.
Gameweek 5 sees Nunez and Liverpool travel to Wolves and the expectation is that Nunez’s ownership will have significantly risen by the deadline. So often we see FPL assets such as him go on a hot streak for a period of time and managers would be wise to jump on now whilst he’s in such good form.
